Direct access to exchange market data and execution
links is critical to competing in today’s electronic
trading environment yet, exchange fees and ever growing
communications costs make provisioning these feeds an
expensive undertaking. The V-Tick solution is simple: we
offer everything a firm will need to bring direct feed
market data and execution links to their applications.
V-Tick is an all inclusive A to Z solution: data,
co-location, software, exchange interfacing, and
support!
We procure and offer access to the raw data feeds and
execution links in our hardened co-location data center,
thus reducing the high cost of connectivity for our
customers. This solution maintains the lowest latency by
providing firms with immediate access to raw data
directly off the networking devices sourcing the data
from the exchanges.
We take the headaches away from our customers by staying
well ahead of the curve on market data volume
requirements and provision connectivity to the exchanges
with plenty of “headroom” to handle all projected data
increases.
To make the transition to direct data easier, Essex
Radez offers our
KMD
open source software
solution providing an extremely efficient interface to the data.
Added to the V-Tick service is our Derived Data Engine
providing access to such calculated data fields as:
VWAP, intraday
high and low, accumulated volume, net change and tick
direction, to name a few.
V-Tick also offers access to
intra-day quote snapshots and, when used in conjunction
with our
Clarity service, historical tick data.
The combination of exchange
and derived data with quote snapshots allows you to
easily duplicate the essential
functionality of consolidated feeds while preserving the
latency advantage of direct exchange data.
Even if migrating to a new data vendor is not an option
for your firm, V-Tick is a cost-effective data source
for adding a redundant data feed into your system.

Connectivity to V-Tick
Three options are available for connectivity into the
V-Tick solution:
Co-location
Co-location, using the ASP model, is the ideal solution
for applications requiring every data tick on a great
number of securities as it provides the lowest possible
latency and complete immunity from sky-rocketing data
communications costs resulting from growing feed
bandwidth. The V-Tick data center is in
Equinix
, a
world-class IBX facility in Chicago and a point of
presence for the
SIAC/SFTI network, the source for
listed and options exchange data. No one provides data
faster.
We believe co-location with
SFTI
is the future of
trading as it positions our clients to be closest to the
highest volume data sources. Through V-Tick, we provide
space for your servers, arrange Internet access,
guarantee 24/7 facility access, and provide remote
management tools. Your servers will patch directly into
the switches connected to the
SIAC/SFTI network and the
extranets providing NASDAQ, ARCA, and other feeds and
execution links. There is no middleman processing.
Private connection between your data center and
V-Tick
When co-location is not practical, we offer two options
with the choice depending on your data requirements,
location, and budget.
V-Tick Remote
uses intelligent multicasting
and dynamic watch-list technology to provide the most
affordable access to V-Tick direct exchange feeds from
remote locations. When co-location of your applications
in our data center is not an option,
V-Tick Remote
enables your applications to dynamically set filters
insuring that the quote and trade records they need, and
only those they need, are instantly delivered via an
extranet connection to V-Tick. And, since both
services rely on the same KMD API, applications can be
easily transported.
For those in downtown Chicago or
those in other cities in buildings already connected to
the
Cogent
or
Yipes
fiber network, cost-effective bandwidth
makes it possible for us to route
entire feeds to your data center from
V-Tick.
Ethernet bandwidth (layer 2) through providers such as
Yipes
and
Cogent
allows a direct connection from our
market data switches to your LAN, with no other
networking equipment required. Essex Radez will work to
find and set up the most cost-effective solution for
you.
Combination of co-location and private
connectivity
If application requirements are mixed, consider a hybrid
solution – co-locating some servers and relying on
V-Tick Remote
to feed other applications. This
mixture offers virtually unlimited ability to optimize
spending, meet application requirements, and realize the
business advantage that results from access to direct
exchange data.
Market Data Distribution Software/Ticker Plant
For most, guaranteeing access to direct exchange feeds
is followed by the need for a market data software
library that parses the disparate feed protocols and provides an
effective API to simplify application development. To
meet this need, Essex Radez has developed
KMD
an open source market data API library
designed to process raw exchange feeds with
the lowest possible latency. Using a modular design,
KMD provides unparalleled flexibility in system
configuration and functionality.
Support – Providing expertise 24/7
As you would expect, outstanding support is provided for
V-Tick on a
24/7 basis and we provide you with remote management
tools to access your servers and devices at any time. In
addition to our own staff,
Equinix also provides remote
technicians on site 24/7 for immediate needs. For our
co-location customers, we have further arranged for your
technicians to have 24/7 access to the
Equinix facility.
And for those customers utilizing our open source
KMD
software, we maintain a distribution list for
maintenance and new feature releases.
A Word About Exchange Fees
As a user of direct feeds, the exchanges require each
firm to pay a fee directly to the exchange as a
recipient of market data. In many cases as a
V-Tick
subscriber, your charges will be lower than those taking
the feed directly. Prior to enabling a feed, Essex Radez
will assist each customer in filing the appropriate
documentation with the relevant exchanges. For some
exchanges we are permitted to process agreements and
billing, some require subscribers to make direct
arrangements. In either case, our staff will guide you
through this process.
It's your choice – you can accept increasing latency and
fall behind the market, you can keep paying more for
traditional direct feed solutions, or – you can
